Stamped concrete is an incredibly durable and long-lasting material that can be a beautiful addition to your home or business for years to come. Yet, while it is a low-maintenance material, some maintenance is required to keep it looking great and problem-free. Here are four way to maintain your stamped concrete that you need to be doing.
Stamped Concrete Maintenance Tips
1. Sweep and Mop the Surface as Needed
When stamped concrete is outside, it is likely to be covered with dirt, leaves, animal droppings, food crumbs and other debris at some point. Even stamped concrete that is inside will get dirty from time to time. Keep your concrete looking clean by sweeping and mopping the surface as needed.
2. Clean Stains Carefully
If your stamped concrete becomes stained, you will want to take the necessary steps to remove the stain, if at all possible. Pressure washing can be used to remove some stains, as can cleaning with chemicals specially made for stamped concrete.
3. Avoid Deicing Salts
While most people apply deicing salts to their roads, driveways and sidewalks--not their stamped concrete--these salts have a tendency to get tracked everywhere. Do not spread deicing salts on stamped concrete, and keep the salts away from the concrete as much as possible. This may require rugs and frequent sweeping and mopping in the wintertime.
4. Reseal the Surface Occasionally
Lastly, make sure to reseal your stamped concrete surface occasionally. Not only will this keep the surface looking bright and shiny, but it will also help to protect the concrete from the elements and from foot traffic.
Stamped concrete sealants should generally be applied every two to three years. If you are unsure about type of sealer to get, a professional contractor or landscaper who works with concrete in a professional setting should be able to point you in the right direction.
With just a little maintenance, you can enjoy a beautiful and durable stamped concrete surface for years to come.
